Abstract

The female presence in the Brazilian labor market has increased considerably from middle of the last century. The medical practice followed this growth, with a gynecology specialty that has attracted mainly medical professionals. However, the inclusion of women in the labor market has not been easy without facing obstacles. The Brazilian gynecology, in its beginning, was a specialty male hegemony. This paper aims at realizing the extent which the female condition interfered in the conquering entrance and occupation of that space. To verify this, an interview was conducted with Dr. Clarice Amaral Ferreira, who won a series of professionals’ conquests that characterize her as a pioneering physician in the labor market, specifically in gynecology. Through the methodology of oral history of life, tried to recover the difficulties experienced by that and the strategies she used to face them.
