The colibacillosis can manifest itself as severe diarrhea, depending on the bacteria involved - the more or less pathogenic -, the environment, the general management and animal health, hygiene and disinfection of the premises, the immunity of the mother of the piglets and genetic characteristics of the animals in question. Samples were collected from 31 piglets’ diarrhea during the maternity and nursery on two farms in North and Northwest Paraná, to produce the formolized bacterin aimed to control the neonatal colibacillosis. The mother pigs of the experiment were vaccinated twice - four and two weeks before giving birth. There was a reduction in the percentage of piglets which had diarrhea from 90% to 17% (P <0,0001) during their first week of life. The use of auto vaccination against colibacillosis in piglets, managed in the mother pigs during its pregnancy that has proved the effective reduction on the incidence of neonatal diarrhea.Downloads
