Abstract

The present paper refers to the analysis and comparison of seasonal behavior patterns regarding peanut price variation in the period from January 1996 to December 2005. It is noticed that seasonal factors, related to harvest and inter-harvest time, in fact, influence the behavior and the price variation in the peanut agricultural market. Differences are observed through comparative analysis, such as the seasonal pattern and the price dispersion between both markets: the primary one (the producer market) and the secondary one (the wholesale market). Finally, the importance of knowing the seasonal variation and the irregularity of peanut price in the different market levels of the productive chain is emphasized. Thus, the present study is considered as a valuable tool to guide economical agents that act, either directly or indirectly, in peanut agribusiness.
