Abstract

The state of Goiás is composed of 18 micro regions. The southwestern micro region in Goiás is one of the most important state in terms of economy and population. The economic base of this region is agriculture, accounting for the largest grain producer in the state. However, its importance was formed from the degradation of large portions of the cerrado (Brazilian interior vegetation), which is considered one of the major biomes on the planet. After its occupation, large areas of grassland gave way to agriculture, but this does not represent the end of the cerrado degradation, that has increasingly intensified. The aim of this paper is to discuss and show the importance of the cerrado biome and how these were and still are being degraded.
