Abstract

High urbanization in Brazil has increased the production of urban solid wastes, mainly garbage and sewage sludge. Treatment and final disposal of the two residues are difficult to achieve and costly. Agricultural recycling of organic garbage and sewage sludge is an environment-friendly technique and money-saving on condition that pathogens, heavy metals levels, applied doses and application frequencies are under strict control. Their use in the production of flower and ornamental plants decreases environmental and public health risks and production costs when used as manure or soil content.
