Abstract

Control of the main viral diseases in poultry production is discussed. The theme also specifies methods for the prevention of disease through management and mainly through vaccination programs, taking into account particularities of poultry immunologic system and appropriate methods in vaccination. Warranting success in prevention medicine programs goes beyond the application of vaccine. A comprehensive process involving animals, techniques, environment and human experience are needed for an effective protection. Since vaccination programs are a flexible factor, a well prepared technical and medical staff is required. The latter will identify and make adjustments when required, giving special attention to breed, diseases in the neighborhood and constant development in products and techniques. A correct vaccination program and good management constitute a long-term commitment which will not only improve avian conditions but also directly affect production. In fact, the poultry industry is a main low-cost animal protein supplier.
