Abstract
Percentage, speed, mean speed, mean time of germination and growth of Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia by treatment of seeds with gibberellic acid (GA3) are provided. Seeds underwent pre-soaked for 0.5, 1, 2 and 3 hours in water and concentrations of 5, 10 and 20 mg.L-1 GA3. Pre-Soaked seeds were distributed in four petri dishes with 25 seeds each. They were previously wrapped in two sheets of filter paper wetted with 10 mL of distilled water and left at a BOD climatic chamber at 25°C ± 2 and under a fluorescent lamp white light at 32,85 µmol.m-2.s-1 at seed level until germination. Results from germination tests and tests with regard to plant development such as length of roots, length of aerial parts, total plant length, fresh and dry matter were submitted to analysis of variance and means were compared by Tukey’s test 5%. Treatments with different concentration of GA3 did not affect significantly the germination processes. However, pre-soaked for 2 hours at 10 and 20 mg.L-1 of GA3 increased the plants’ fresh matter. Pre-liquid absorption for 3 hours at any GA3 concentration positively affected total plant and root length when compared to the other treatments.
