Financial Feasibility and Risk Analysis in Jatropha Crop for the Production of Biodiesel in the State of Tocantins, Brazil

Abstract
Increasing growth in energy consumption and natural limitation of production and use of fossil fuel require diversification in energy matrix giving priority to renewable and clean sources. Although biodiesel is an alternative source of energy, the ideal prime matter should be chosen for its production in each region within Brazil. Studies on economical and financial viability are thus highly relevant within the decision-making process and the proper allocation of resources. A pioneer analysis on the financial viability of the jatropha crop is undertaken for the production of biodiesel in the state of Tocantins, Brazil, by employing Costs-Benefits Analysis, Risk Analysis, VPL and TIR indicators. Although financial feasibility exists, the promising traits of the oleaginous plant have still to be proved when Risk Analysis is investiged, due to variations in production costs, or rather, variation in coverage manure price.
