Analysis of alternative substrates for the culture of Pleurotus ostreatoroseus and Pleurotus florida

Abstract

Mushroom consumption and culture are on the increase due to their nutritional properties. The utilization of ligno-cellulose substrates obtained from vegetal waste is a viable alternative to their production. Current research evaluates mycelium development and the production of Pleurotus ostreatoroseus and Pleurotus florida mushrooms in different ligno-cellulose wastes. Species were cultivated in cotton waste, in pure and supplemented ligustrum, supplemented wood saw dust and wheat grains. Counts to determine mycelium’s mean development time were undertaken daily. Production was undertaken in pure and supplemented cotton wastes. The cotton wastes provided a shorter time of mycelium development and higher productivity when supplemented.
