Abstract

The Roadside hawk (Rupornis magnirostris) is present all over Brazil, inhabits opened fields, edge of bushes and urban areas, being a pretty common and well adapted hawk to the environmental impacts. It eats arthropods and small vertebrates. The aim of this study was to present field information on the biology of the Roadside hawk besides pointing out some questions on threats and actions to preserve this species. The work was carried out from November 2007 to October 2008 in the cities of Peabiru and Maringá, located in the northwestern region of the Paraná state, Brazil. Another part of the data was obtained in the survey of diurnal birds of prey from northwestern Paraná, carried out in the same period. Data collection was carried out by means of direct identification, visual and auditory recognition. These observations allowed us to infer some considerations that may contribute to the conservation of the species in this region.
