Abstract

The last decades of the 20th century, especially after the Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, any enterprise is supposed to execute its social responsibility by taking off its focus from exclusive profit-making. However, the social responsibility ideal is not yet part of the program of most Brazilian enterprises, especially when the issue is the opportunity of work for the ex-convict. Some factors, such as the lack of public policies for the re-insertion of the ex-convict in society, viv-à-vis the obligations of the law and enterprisers´ bias in the wake of the social stigma in admitting an ex-convict on the pay-roll, make difficult the reduction of criminal re-occurrence. The firm´s participation through work opportunities is basic for the inclusion of the ex-convict in society. Re-insertion aims at the re-habilitation of ex-convicts to social life and the subsequent decrease in crime recurrence. Current analysis deals with parameters on the firms´ social responsibility, the participation of the government through public policies and, at the same time, analyzes the possibilities and feasibility of a system towards the effective re-integration of the ex-convict in the labor market. Results show that productive work is one of the most important measures that help ex-convicts to rebuild their lives. The establishment of a national legislation is required to stimulate firms to contract ex-convicts. The deductive method has been employed in current analysis, based on Brazilian and international bibliography, through interdisciplinary investigation.
