Abstract

The internationalization of businesses is a growing and continuous process of involvement of a company in operations with other countries. The agroindustrial system of broilers in Brazil acquired the status of the largest world exporter of this commodity and the third largest world producer. This position is due to several factors, among them: the use of new technologies in production and handling; improvement of the sanitary quality; and great availability of inputs (labor and grains at a low cost). The dynamic of this activity as well as its economical and social importance for the country is high. The aim of this study is to characterize the profile of the internalization of the exportation agribusiness of broilers from Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, using Kraus (2000) internationalization model as theoretical outline. The qualitative methodology was adopted, based on multiple case studies. It was an attempt to understand and classify in this process the agribusiness companies of this state. The results reveal that the existent companies in the state had its origins in other areas of the country and the world and they currently are at the first two stages of the internationalization model: pre-involvement and passive involvement and most of the exported products have low added value. The contributions of the study are still presented.
