Abstract

Biodiesel is an alternative, renewable, biodegradable and nontoxic fuel. The transesterification of vegetable oils or animal fat with alcohol is the most common form of production of the fuel. Disposal of waste oils resulting from frying processes is a major environmental problem, since they are disposed of in an inadequate manner and, consequently, the pollution level in rivers and expensive costs in effluent treatment are on the increase. The use of waste fat for biodiesel production represents an environmentally appropriate alternative since their final disposal is thus achieved.
