The issue about the relation between decentralization, federalism and the Brazilian federative pact has gained prominence in recent years, especially after the 90s. Clarify what each concept means and their relationship, which has led to the federative pact, is the main theme of the article. The article also intends to demonstrate that the terms have a variety of meanings, but it is in the field of political sociology that they find a better concept to reach the conclusive result: their relations are the main factor of the Brazilian federative pact, which is also considered one of the great achievements of the 1988 Federal Constitution.
