Abstract

A theoretical essay of 2003 entitled "What will the future of the Business Managers’ factories be?" questioned, in that context, the trend of exponential growth followed by the Business schools of the country, with the predominance of private institutions. In parallel with this progress, the article reported some structuring of Business schools around an ideology of "scientific management", that could be metaphorically called “factories of Business Managers", in which the latter would be the product of the process. The paper also denounced some factors that were contributing to decreasing the quality of Business majors in the country: the use of a minimum curriculum, inflexible and not adapted to regional demands; unprepared professors, and scant interest in research in most institutions. Reconsidering some of these reflections, this theoretical-empirical paper questions: Will the future of the factory of business managers continue? What has been the role of the Federal Council of Administration in this process? The research was characterized as qualitative. Data were collected from secondary sources of the MEC census (2004 and 2007), Enade 2006 (Nacional Student’s Performance Exam), and institutional documents of the Federal Council of Administration. Content Analysis was used for data treatment. It is concluded that the factory of Business Managers is still working in full force, given the expansion of undergraduate programs, the indicatives of problems in the quality of formation of professionals, the persistence of a curriculum that is fragmented and distant from the society’ demands, and insufficient and poorly effective influences of the Federal Council of Administration to correct the course of events.
