Abstract

The Indian Reservation area of São Pedro de Alcântara in the erstwhile Province of Paraná, Brazil, during the second half of the nineteenth century and the commercial practices involved are discussed. The main research sources consist of the missionary’s reports to the President of the Province of Paraná and emphasize the commercial relationships between the Kaingang and Guarani Indians and their neighbors. The Indian Reserve and its Indians used to sell food and sugarcane brandy. Data on the lists of voters of the Tibagi parish are investigated to identify the merchants involved in these activities.
