Abstract

According to Martin Buber, the function of words is not meant to represent or name things, but to foreground human existence. Word foregrounding doesn’t refer to the Greek term ‘logos’; rather, it is bonded to the long Biblical tradition of Judaism. Buber incurs through a different path from traditional philosophies on the subject and makes explicit his theological anthropology in innovating and philosophical concepts. Rather than positing as a primordial relation the subject who is capable of knowing and the known object, Buber describes the inter-human relationships as the source and foundation of human existence.
