Abstract

The influence of competitive forces (strife between competitor firms, entrance threats, replacing products, buyers´ and suppliers´ power) in decision-taking in physiotherapy firms in a hinterland city of the state of Paraná, Brazil, is investigated. Theory is foregrounded on competitive forces and decision-taking. The article identifies which competitive force has the greatest influence on the firms decision-taking and verifies the organizational aspects which reveal the above-mentioned power to the administrators. The descriptive and qualitative research focused on Clinics A, B, C and D and data collection was based on a structured questionnaire handed to administrators of the four clinics in July 2011. The most influential force was the negotiation power of the suppliers. Identification revealed the covert need of clinics to find favorable conditions where the suppliers´ negotiation power would not compromise them or reached them at a lower degree.
