Abstract

This article analyzes the disability and employment in Brazil considering the period of 2007 to 2011. As the methodology, a documentary descriptive research was used. It was based on the analysis of the data from Census 2010 issued by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and on the Annual Relation of Social Information (RAIS) issued by Ministry of the Work and Employment (MTE), and the development of a field research. The presented results demonstrate that “social inclusion” of disabled people through employment, aimed through affirmative actions embodied in the legislation, which tries to ensure employment to disabled people, is far from the ideal one. Moreover, it was noticed the presence of a social stigma of disability as an obstacle for the access of people with disabilities to remunerated work, preventing them from developing their potentialities. This is present, still, in the lack of accessibility that would guarantee them an independent life in the development of their activities.
