Abstract

Current analysis discusses the transition process from leader to contributor. Although it is a relevant theme, it is only scantily investigated. Whereas the process to become a leader has been extensively studied (HILL, 2003; HOWARD, 2003; KONCZAK, 1994; PEARCE II, 1982; THOMAS, 1999), the transition from leader to the individual contributor has not been exploited. After exercising leadership in several organizations professionals may return to their prior activities and become mere contributors. Transition is considered a human experience filled with emotions, challenges, losses and opportunities which affect people´s performance and the organizations´ work (NININGER; ARDITTI, 2004).
