ALIGNMENT OF COMPETENCES AND STRATEGIES: BALANCED SCORECARD FRAMEWORK AND VALUE CHAIN

Abstract
Nuances on the application of organizational and essential competences which make possible an organization to be competitive are investigated. Current analysis aligns competences with generic strategies. A framework related to Balanced Scorecard with the firm´s strategic positioning has been established. BSC is relevant to prop up the organization for choosing emergent strategies, based on findings and improvements of organizational competences so that they may become essential. An exploratory and explicative research foregrounding the bases for the two models has been employed. A model that aligns BSC to generic strategies and essential competences is first developed; an alignment model of strategies with value chain whose influence occurs by BSC is later developed through a strategic map. Models met with the study´s expectations in proportion to evidencing BSC and Value Chain relevance to promote organizational learning and improvement of processes. The two models also allow the re-evaluation of generic strategies by the discovery of essential competences. Realignment of strategies with competences favored the strategic positioning for the establishment of value and for the maintenance of competitive advantage.
