Abstract

Service innovations in a family agriculture cooperative in the state of Sergipe, Brazil, are analyzed. Survey research and structured questionnaires showed that innovation of products and processes occurred in services to farmers even though the cooperative and its low income members had little or no resource to the Internet or any communication technology. Data collection revealed that there was a direct influence of the members in the decisions of the organization and consequently in the services. Results show that there are conditions for the existence of ad hoc innovations in cooperatives, corroborated by the literature underscoring that technology does not warrant the introduction of innovations, especially in the service sector.
