Abstract

A review of academic production on artisanal works and artisans in Brazil between 2000 and 2014 is provided. One hundred and seventy-two articles, dissertations and theses were identified and researched. A contextual relationship in the artisanal field from its constitution as a cultural heritage and entrepreneurship was undertaken, whilst a theoretical description on the artisanal field and its relationship with academic production was forwarded. The position analysis of the documents was undertaken through identification, after which text analysis on contents was performed within the geographical, cultural, economic and political context. Although artisanal production and knowledge on the subject have increased during the last years, social integration is low and should be strengthened in institutions where knowledge and information on the activity would be more open and an integrating motif from the different regions of Brazil.
