What is Knowledge? - A Brief Review of Literature

Abstract

We are facing the paradoxical situation of knowing what is known. Consider the knowledge itself would be a total abstraction. Thus, in view of this vast universe of philosophical definitions of knowledge, we chose two approaches that have explained our thinking on the subject. The first, the Sociology of Knowledge, aims to identify the production of knowledge in terms of permanent cultural immersion, search through this approach, understanding the formation of knowledge, the way in which it holds a coalescence between social conditions within an specific historical situation and the subjects individual and collective with the cultural elements of community mental, such as religion, science, art and literature. The second approach, the Phenomenology, proposes to set their own return to things, the things in themselves, breaking thus the subject-object dichotomy in the constitution of knowledge in terms of the individual. We understand well the Phenomenology - and for this reason we support it - as an healthy attempt, in the midst of the personal knowledge theories, out of the following impasse: "the world is absorbed by the awareness and defined by it, or is the awareness that is absorbed by the world and defined by it?"
