Acknowledgement of the Person with Deficiency Through Labor

Abstract

Owing to their conditions, persons with deficiency, in the midst of other individuals, require favorable situations so that they could develop themselves as citizens and worthy person. The right of their persons needs support, help and enhancement so that they could be so in all fullness. The elaboration and execution of public policies that materialize the rights of the above-mentioned persons is the role of the State and civil society. The Associations of Parents and Friends of People with Deficiency are actually relevant activities and nuclei for the provision of projects and activities that aim at the complete fulfillment of persons with deficiency. Based on one of the aspects of the political theory of acknowledgement or on one of its issues, labor is perceived as one of the tools to provide the materialization of the persons’ rights. In fact, labor inserts persons with deficiency within the social context and makes them aware that they are social agents and citizens through the formation of their identities. The project ‘Cultivar’, developed by the Association of Parents and Friends of People with Deficiency of Maringá-PR, Brazil, inserts the persons with deficiency within the labor market and presents them as people effectively participating in social life. This occurs through wage earning, a factor that acknowledges them as individuals. Society and above all they themselves become aware of their relevance.
