Abstract

This paper aims to readjust the study room of the Municipal Library of Maringá leaving this space inviting for a larger public in search of culture, reading and researches, place that is now forgotten by the population. It is proposed the accomplishment of the development of the methods and concepts for the better use and performance of artificial light, seeking the visual comfort for the exercises and activities related to environments. As determined by the standard ABNT - Brazilian National Standards Organization, by NBR 5413/92, for the activities of reading and writing documents with high contrast, the minimum level of illumination, expressed in the unit: lux (lx) it should vary among 300 to 500 lux. In this specific library, were collected in several points of the space the existent illumination levels, through the light meter apparel for a comparative analyzing with the current standard of the actual behavior of these illumination levels. So it was verified that most of the lifted up points didn't have minimum levels of illumination demanded for a good pattern of illumination. Through the isolines software simulator it was possible to execute a simulation of the lifted up points and their respective illumination levels, proving the problematic subject. Lighting is very important in setting the image of an enclosure and in the use of a public space, as well as the importance of the basic lighting design concepts provides us a general vision of different models of illumination of tasks for each area of a library.
