Penal treatment and social exclusion

Abstract

This work has attempted to verify if the social-economical condition of people who commit criminal acts and are being help at the State prision of Maringá, during the period between. May and September 2004, was determinant to their criminal practices, since the so called penal treatment, consider crime as a problem inherent, and that their social-economical situation has no influence in its accomplishment. Therefore, a critical reading of the results found, it has been attempted to answer this question in an open minded way. Thus, it was posible to produce new knowledge that may give some subsidy to the professisonal practice of social workers as to transform the criminal reality of these prisioners.
