Alterations in the digestive system triggered by Trypanosome Cruzi infectious picture
Abstract
The American Trypasomiasis of Chagas disease is an endemia that affects the whole of Latin America, being considered a serious public health problem, since its morbisity is relatively high, in which chronic patients present varied degrees of miocardiopathy, megaesophagus, and megacolon. The Chagas disease is incapacitating, and is considered a serious social problem in our country. The infection by the Trypanosome Cruzi promotes the progressive destruction of the neurons of several organns and systems, as well as causing the intrinsic unnerving of the Enteric nervous System (SNE). This destruction occurs with variable intensities in the digestive system affecting the control of secretion and the bowels movement of chronic individuals. As SNE is affected by the infectious picture triggered by the T. Cruzi, the individual may become undernourished due to food regurgitation that causes a feeding deficit. Another problem faced by patients is the rapid gastric emptying, especially in the first five minutes, exposing the proximal small intestine to an excessive amount of mono-saccarates leading to the rapis absorption of the sugars. this rapid absorption may also be associated to lesions of the pancreatic intrinsic of individuals with the Chagas disease, demonstrating some relation with glycemic disturbances such as hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. Due to the seerious disturbances that affect the digestive system of chronic patients, a nutritional intervention in the diet is recommended aiming at improving the quality of living of these patients.
