The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial and modulating activity by gas contact of the isolated compound Valencene. The standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC6538, Escherichia coli 25922 and multidrug-resistant S. aureus 358, E. coli 27 were used, and disks of the antibiotics amikacin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin were used for the modulation test. Using the gas contact technique, the direct action of Valencene on the bacterial strains and the potential for modifying the activity of the antibiotics when associated were verified, with the results being evaluated based on the size of the microbial growth inhibition halo. The tests were carried out in triplicate and expressed as the geometric mean. For statistical analysis, a two-way ANOVA was applied followed by the Bonferroni test, considering a significance level of p? 0.05. Valenceno's direct activity, no results were obtained for either strain. The modulation tests showed statistically significant results when valencene was associated with standard and multi-resistant E. coli and S. aureus bacteria. Further in-depth research should be carried out to expand and prove the knowledge of the compound studied. The results obtained are promising and could stimulate further research.
