Histopathological findings observed in the uterine horns of female calves fed with a diet rich in fat
Abstract
A histological study was designed to characterize histological alterations in the uterine horns of cows maintained on diets with elevated indices of fat in an attempt to relate the deposit of fatty with low reproductive indices. Samples from 23 uterine horns were evaluated. Three groups of animals were examined: a) Group I (n-8), diet without the addition of fat; b) Group II (n=7), diet with oil seeds; and c) Group III (n=8), diet supplemented with protected fatty elements. No deposits of fatty tissues were observed in the uterine horns examined. However, necrosis of endometrial glands, periglandular endometrial fibrisis, and interstitial edema were observed. The possible causes of these alterations are discussed.
