Abstract

The present work had the objectie of estimating the length of each segment of the large ane small intestines of adult domestic New Zealand Rabbits (males and females). For the experiment, 39 digestive systems of rabbits of 2.0 kg of average weight were used. The intestine segments were identified by topographic parameters, preserving the mesenteries integrity and, after that, they were stretched and measuredwith the help of a manual caliper. It has been observed that the everage intestine measurement was 4,44m. Regarding the small intestines, the averange length was 2,81m, 56,48cm being the duodenum, 1,88m the jejum and 36,08 cm the ascending colon, 11,47cm the transverse colon, 22,66cm the descending colon, and 7,05cm the rectum. No significant differences (p>0,05) were observed in relation to the lenbths of the intestine segments lengths correlated to sex dimorphism. (males and females).
