Transference and counter-transference in the post-freudian psychoanalytic discourse on hysteria
Abstract
This work is part of a larger research, whose objective is to examine the post-Freudian psychoanalytic discourse on hysteria up to the present. the specific objective of this paper is limited to the discurse on transference and counter-transference in the analysis of a hysterical subject. Several summaries, obtained from the data bank of the American Psychology Association (APA) were read and commented, from which a few were chosen for a more detailed analysis. The results show the characterization of transference as being marked for intense voracity, denial of help, investment in the ideal object and lack of investiment in the real object, the annalist seduction, and the massive use of projective identifications. The counter-transference, on the other hand, appears as a feeling of guilt and paranoia in the mind of the psychoanalyst as well as the feeling of special and admired and, above all, of hopelessness and importance.
