Abstract

The lower urinary tract is the site of one the most relevant diseases in cats, with several causes. It may manifest itself as idiopathic cystitis, bladder urolithiasis, obstructive uroliths and obstruction by urethral plugs. Clinical signs comprise hematuria, dysuria, polaciuria and urethral obstruction. A data retrospective study on the records of two veterinary hospitals in Maringá PR Brazil was undertaken. Results show that FLUTD affects male and female cats and that the obstructive process is highly frequent among males. Castration and animal breed is not a predisposing factor to FLUTD, although dry diets, water, age, living environment, seasonality, inactivity and obesity are risk factors of FLUTD syndrome predisposed cats. FLUTD profile in the feline population attended to by veterinary clinics in Maringá and the association of its risk factors could be assessed.
