Abstract

A research on the Evaluation Committee (EC) in an Institution of Higher Education in the state of Paraná, Brazil, is provided from the point of view of the courses’ coordinators and the evaluation’s relationship with practices for the quality improvement in IHEs. Current research is justified because the EC integrates institutional evaluation with guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education and has become an important internal factor for the construction of quality in education. A survey of the EC was undertaken with 31 coordinators focusing on the academic section, its importance for undergraduate courses, the processes involved, the socialization of results and changes achieved. Results show that one third of the coordinators confessed lack of information on the EC’s general results and criticized ranking given to professors as the sole result of students’ point of view. Replies showed the need for a discussing forum and broadcasting of data by the EC.
