Abstract

Current research investigates the diversity of ectoparasite insects found in bats on the campus of the Faculdade de Apucarana, Apucarana PR Brazil. Research was performed in March, April and May 2011. Five mist nets measuring 13,475 m² were used to capture the bats. Collection of endoparasites was undertaken manually or with a fine point tweezers. Specimens were conserved in alcohol 70% and identified by stereoscopic microscope. Ectoparasite species included Aspidoptera sp, Megistopoda sp, Paratrichobius sp and Ischnopsyllidae. Estimated richness curve showed a trend towards the occurrence of other ectoparasite species on the campus. Data corroborate those verified in other regions of Brazil and information on the diversity of the group in the Atlantic Rainforest biome of the Paraná.
