Abstract

Considering the present problem of Portuguese language control in the academic spaces, this study attempts at verifying the level of knowledge and control of the standard language by the students in the 3rd year of secondary education in a state and a private school in order to understand the conflicting elements in the teaching/learning methodological process and its relation to communicational competence of the educating subject. Thus, a bibliographical research has been carried out in respect to the competences intended by the PCNs for the Portuguese language in secondary education, as well as a field research in which the subjects were 24 students of each school. A questionnaire with 15 open questions was given to them about the reading practice, the production of oral and written texts, which intended to bring up data that points out to a possible origin of the problem. In addition, a study was carried out about the practices of language, reading, and production and how this polyphony can help in the elaboration of texts, oral or written.
