LINGUISTIC ATTITUDES OF THE RIKBAKTSA: PUBLIC DISCOURSE ON THE LANGUAGE

Abstract

The Rikbaktsa people, composed of 35 indigene communities in the northwestern region of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, are analyzed. Current sociolinguistic research investigates the linguistic attitudes of the Rikbaktsa people in their contact between the Rikbaktsa language and Portuguese, where the linguistic attitude consists in the public discourse on the language, underscored by a bibliographic research and data collection undertaken in a closed questionnaire applied to 30 bilingual Rikbaktsa/Portuguese collaborators. Results show that indigene education is a mechanism for the preservation of the language and the formation of native teachers capable of teaching in the village schools, with the subsequent conservation of their culture.

Mileide Terres de Oliveira, IFMT - Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Mato Grosso.
Graduada em Língua Portuguesa, Inglesa e respectivas Literaturas. Pós-graduada em LIBRAS. Mestre em Linguística (UNEMAT). Doutoranda do Programa de Pós Graduação Stricto Sensu em Linguística pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP. Professora efetiva do Ensino Básico, Técnico e Tecnológico/LIBRAS do Instituto Federal de Mato Grosso (IFMT) campus Juína-MT. Integrante do Núcleo de Estudos Afro-brasileiros e Indígenas - IFMT/Juína (NEABI). Atua na área da descrição e análise de línguas indígenas, especificamente a etnia Rikbaktsa, habitantes localizados no noroeste do Mato Grosso. Além disso, desenvolve pesquisas na área da LIBRAS e de educação inclusiva.
