Abstract

This paper presents a critical reading of the film contents about the racial prejudice. It tries to answer the following question: how the cinema when showing the social conflicts created by the racial rules can contribute producing better prepared and capable teachers to deal with racism and prejudice in the classroom? In this sense, the film “Sarafina o som da liberdade” was selected, as a source of research, aiming to investigate the cultural, economic, social and politic aspects of the Africa, intending to propose a methodology of filmic analysis basing it in the Cultural Studies. Using the film at school, in this perspective, can broaden our comprehension about the logic of domination by the racial segregation and contribute to mobilize actions of valorization and recognition of the history of the African and Afro-descendant culture.
