THE LINGUISTIC ATLAS OF AMAPÁ: A SECTION OF LEXICAL VARIATION IN THE SPEECH OF PEOPLE FROM AMAPÁ
Abstract
Several cases of lexical variations perceived in charts of the linguistic atlas of Amapá (ALAP) are analyzed. The analysis of lexical data follows the theoretical and methodological presuppositions of sociolinguistics, pluri-dimensional dialectology and linguistic geography. The image projected on language variation does not limit itself to the geographic aspect but also takes into consideration social factors, such as relevant aspects in the register of lexical diversity. Data were collected from ten sites in the state of Amapá, Brazil, through a semantic-lexical questionnaire composed of 222 questions distributed into 14 semantic fields. Forty speakers, four per town, were interviewed. Results given in ALAP show a profile of lexical variation of the places under analysis and provide an overview of the productivity of certain items in the vocabulary of the people of Amapá. Current study provides a cross-section of the profile through three productive lexical items, in variation terms, and reproduced in three linguistic charts of the atlas.References
