Abstract

Cosmetic formulae have recently developed a lot and makeup products have become an aid for the treatment and protection of the skin. The use of photo protectors with a wide ultraviolet spectrum is crucial for the prevention of skin cancer, especially on the areas with daily exposure to the sun, such as the lips. Current paper aims at elaborating lipsticks of different colors (brown, red, rose and violet) not only to enhance emolliency, hydration and lip coloring, but also to protect UV rays. Results demonstrate that SPF (Solar Protection Factor) of lipstick samples are within the category of high protection, capable of maintaining water retension in the skin, easy spread on the lips, hardness consonant with the type of product and low possibility of oxidative deterioration. Consequently, lipsticks have the commercial characteristics of hydration, color, emolliency and high photo protection rates and may prevent labial cancer.
