Análise da agricultura orgânica na Região Sul do Brasil, sob a perspectiva da sustentabilidade

Resumo

A agricultura familiar, aliada às práticas agroecológicas, pode minimizar os efeitos nocivos da agricultura convencional em larga escala e contribuir para a mitigação do aquecimento global. A grande questão que se sobressai é se essa forma de produção poderá suprir o acréscimo de demanda esperada, substituindo o modelo de produção em escala, em um contexto de aumento populacional previsto para as próximas décadas. Com o propósito de caracterizar os aspectos sustentáveis da agricultura orgânica, a fim de evidenciar os pontos fortes, fracos e desafios no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, foram realizadas entrevistas com dois especialistas de uma instituição governamental de apoio tecnológico a extensão agropecuária, localizada no Estado. Como principais resultados, destaca-se que a agricultura orgânica apresenta potencial de inovação tecnológica, capaz de promover o equilíbrio do meio ambiente, ser rentável para os produtores, influenciar na identidade social e contribuir para a saúde e bem-estar dos consumidores. Dentre as fragilidades, constataram-se o envelhecimento do campo, a falta de desenvolvimento tecnológico para substituir a mecanização e a dependência de combustíveis fósseis. Os desafios demandam incentivos públicos, para promover mais inovação e estímulos financeiros aos pequenos agricultores. Como limitações da pesquisa, destaca-se a falta de aplicação prática dos elementos descritos e o número de profissionais entrevistados. Contudo, por se tratar de gestores que são considerados formadores de opinião e possuem legitimidade institucional, acredita-se que o estudo fornece importantes contribuições para o aprimoramento do conhecimento científico e sugestão de trabalhos futuros.
