The chemical composition of seeds is a genetic factor influenced by several environmental factors. Besides these factors, the insertion of genes through transgenesis can cause changes in the chemical composition of the seeds and make them more attractive to the attack of insects that feed on the seeds. The aim was to evaluate the changes caused by RR and IPRO technologies in the chemical composition, insect attractiveness, yield, and quality of soybean seeds. The experimental design was based on randomized blocks with three repetitions for each of the 14 cultivars that comprised the treatments. After harvest, productivity was determined: seed viability by the germination test and vigor by the tetrazolium test. The tetrazolium test was performed to quantify the seeds attacked by bed bugs. The chemical composition of the seeds was defined by seed centesimal analysis, in which moisture, ether extract, proteins, carbohydrates (fibers + glycidic fraction), and minerals (ash) were measured. Higher protein contents in seeds provided higher germination and vigor. There was a lower incidence of bed bug damage in seeds with high protein concentration and higher incidence in seeds with high carbohydrate concentrations. IPRO cultivars were more susceptible to bed bug incidence when compared to RR cultivars.
