This study aimed to characterize morphological and physiological differences in Copaifera langsdorffii seeds from three distinct regions. The material was collected in Cerrado areas in Montes Claros and Lavras, MG, as well as riparian forests in Lavras, MG. Biometric and physiological characteristics of the seeds were analyzed, including possible allopathic effects on lettuce seeds. Significant variation was observed in dimensions, speed and percentage of germination among the different provenances. Notably, fruits and seeds from the Cerrado of Montes Claros had smaller dimensions and lower moisture content, while the Cerrado of Lavras produced larger seeds. Although the seeds from the Cerrado of Montes Claros germinated more quickly, there were no differences among the provenances regarding the final germination percentage. Lettuce seeds exposed to the leachate of C. langsdorffii seeds from the Cerrado demonstrated slower germination compared to the riparian forest. Such seed characteristics of C. langsdorffii have substantial ecological implications, directly influencing germination and seedling establishment, particularly during the short rainy season.
