The factorial model to identify a set of factors that characterize the modernization of dairy cattle is estimated through 12 technological indicators which represent the milk production units of 139 municipalities of the state of Tocantins Brazil. Five factors were employed to estimate the Modernization Index of Dairy Cattle: F1 = specialization in milk production; F2 = sanitary and feed management; F3 = reproduction technology; F4 = credit; F5 = mechanization of milking process. Municipalities were classified according to their technological levels: 22 = high level; 83 = medium level; 34 = low level. The adoption of feed and sanitary management practices is the dominant covert dimension on the indicating dimensions of reproduction technologies and milking mechanization. Rural credit may be the catalyzing factor of the modernization process, especially the adoption of technologies reproduction management, mechanized milking and milk cooling tanks.Downloads
