QUANTIFICATION OF AMMONIA IN BROILER PRODUCTION UNITS IN HOT CLIMATE

Air quality is one of the most important factors in broiler production. In fact, air pollutants may alter air characteristics, favor susceptibility to diseases and impair production. In spite of the great diversity of methods to quantify ammonia, not all of them may be applied in production units in countries with a hot climate. Studies on comparison, adaptation and application of methods are required to quantify ammonia. Current paper provides the commonest methods used to determine ammonia concentration and emission in animal production installations worldwide and evaluates their application in open aviaries used in countries with a hot climate. Choosing the best method foregrounds relevant factors for the determination of ammonia. In the wake of greater difficulties to determine ventilation rates in open aviaries, methodologies for the evaluation of ammonia emission which do not depend on this parameter are the most indicated.Downloads
