Abstract

The present paper had as its goal to analyze the anaerobic digestion behavior of residual liquids from the sisal industry, in order to two purposes: obtain energy and organic manure and the treatment of the aggressive residuals. A digester of up flow sludge blanket (UASB) in a pilot-scale, using as sludge an inocule mixed of manure swine-bovine and as substrate the essence of agave (Agave fourcroyde L.) was used. It was also made the calculation of the efficiency of the plant in CDO terms (chemical demand of oxygen), as well as the determination of its income and the total solids during all the treatment process. Also the parameters of operation as pH and the temperature had been controlled. The results obtained until the present moment showed a good adaptation of the bacteria to this substrate, with a satisfactory production of biogas and acceptable removal of organic mater.
