Abstract

Current analysis examines the impact of rural credit on agricultural production between 2006 and 2014 within the context of government policies propping up the growth of agriculture, especially through specific schemes. The Vector Error Correction (VEC) has been employed to analyze short and long term relationships. Results show that, in the long term, positive and more significant impacts on agricultural produce will occur by enlarging the plantation area, whereas, in the short term, increase will be subjected to investments in fertilizers and more machines and tools. On the other hand, credit´s indirect effects on agricultural production should not be discarded, although rural credit was not a significant factor.
