An Historical, Religious and Educational Analysis of the Catechism of the Council of Trent

Abstract

The motives causing the religious changes in 16th century Europe and the request of Pope Pius V (Antônio Ghislieri, 1566 - 1572) who ordered the publishing of the CATECHISMVS, Ex Decreto Concilii Tridentini, ad Parochos Pii Quinti Pont. Max. Iussu editus ad editionem. Romae A. D. MDLXVI publici iuris factam accuratissime expressus are investigated. The catechism was mandatory in all Catholic countries in the last quarter of the 16th century as an instruction manual for priests, lay people and children. It comprised a wide religious pedagogy, very simple to teach and to understand the dogmas of the Catholic Church. As an historical document, the Catechism leads the researcher towards the understanding of the methods used to impart Christian values within the context of the growing demands of the 16th century characterized by constant social, cultural and economical transformations.

Mossui graduação em pedagogia pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (2007), graduação em História pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (2000) e em Teologia pelo SPR de Cianorte e Mestrado em Antigo Testamento. Atualmente é professor - SPR. Tem experiência na área de Teologia, com ênfase em História da Teologia. Especialista em História e Sociedade pela UEM (2003) Ataulmente é mestrando em Educação pela UEM.
