The conquest of autonomy for physical activity: a mission for the Physical Education class

Abstract

The present bibliographical study aimed, starting from the possibilities that can be presented by Physical Education classes; at discussing the importance of discipline of autonomous citizen’s formation for practice of Physical activities. At a first moment, we tried to expose the importance of regular daily physical activity, as well as to locate the reader in the current context of the Physical Education class. Following had been discussed the reasons that impede the discipline to consolidate its identity and legitimacy, being among the biggest causes of this factor the priority given to sports institutionalized in the Physical Education classes and, more than that, the practice as no meaning, giving a characteristic of ending to the sport contents, that as well as the other contents, should be meaningful for the students formation. After that, we discuss the autonomy and the importance in the student and citizen’s life, transferring the subject for the object of study of the Physical Education: the human movement. Finally, we approached the life quality and the importance of healthy habits for its acquisition and maintenance, because the autonomy conquest for practice of physical activities is acquired from knowledge and practical experiences that promotes the awareness and capacitating for the improvement of the physical fitness. It was concluded that the Physical Education, inserted in the Education field, has as mission promoting the autonomy of the individuals for physical activities practice and the teacher should seek alternatives to answer the society appeal, which have been suffering of body inactivity.
