THE SOCIOLOGY OF PIERRE BOURDIEU: OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF HABITUS

Abstract

This study is an investigation about the intellectual history of French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, more specifically, one of his most used and known concepts in education, the habitus. The objective is to initiate a discussion about the theoretical reference of Pierre Bourdieu, considering the relevance of his works in the Brazilian educational scenario, according to the discussion about education initiated by the French author. The methodology used to carry out research is guided by readings of major works of the author as well as its commentators. Based on the effect and impact of theoretical production of Bourdieu, and the second readings and studies undertaken, one can see that the concepts of Pierre Bourdieu, among them the habitus, remain encouraging discussions in the fields in which the author has proposed to examine, particularly in relation to the educational field.
